Things to do in Byron Bay

Local picks, what's actually on, and places worth leaving the hotel for.

Byron Bay sits on the northern New South Wales coast, a little over an hour south of the Gold Coast, wrapped around Cape Byron — the most easterly point of mainland Australia. The Cape Byron walking track climbs to the lighthouse for whale-watching in season and sunrise over the Pacific, while Main Beach, Wategos and The Pass cover everything from calm swims to longboard waves. Behind the coast, the hinterland towns of Bangalow, Mullumbimby and Federal bring farmers markets, live music and some of the region's best eating. It's relaxed, outdoorsy and event-rich, with festivals and markets nearly every weekend. — Sunny 🐾
