Walk in Gold Coast

The Twin Falls Circuit is my absolute favourite Springbrook walk, and once you're in it, you'll understand why. This is four kilometres of proper rainforest immersion—the kind of track where the canopy closes in, the air gets cool and green, and you forget there's a coast five minutes' drive away. You're walking behind two actual waterfalls here, which is rare enough on the Gold Coast that it deserves its own sentence. It's a Class 3 moderate walk, about 110 minutes all up, and it delivers something genuinely special without asking you to be a mountaineer.

The setting is Numinbah Valley country, rainforest that feels ancient and undisturbed. When you're in here—especially on a quieter morning or late afternoon—the light filters through in these particular shafts, and you hear water before you see it. There are moments where the track narrows and the ferns crowd in, and then suddenly you're standing behind a curtain of water, or looking out at Rainbow Falls from a viewpoint that makes the walk worth the climb. The valley lookout gives you a sense of how much space is held by this pocket of rainforest. It's the kind of place that reminds you why people move to the Gold Coast and then never leave it.

This walk suits anyone who likes rainforest, wants to see waterfalls up close, and doesn't mind getting their shoes a bit damp. If you're reasonably fit and comfortable on a track that can get slick, especially after rain, you'll have a genuine adventure here. It's perfect for the person who wants to feel like they've gone somewhere wild without needing scrambling skills or serious technical know-how. Locals bring visitors here because it's genuinely impressive—not touristy, not crowded, just real rainforest and real water.

What you actually do is walk through the rainforest, let the track guide you to the falls, and take your time at the highlights: walk behind the Twin Falls themselves (the main event), take in the Rainbow Falls viewpoint, and if you're there around or after sunset, visit the glow-worm cave behind the falls. This is worth a torch—your phone's light will work, but it'll wash out the glow-worms. Bring a proper torch or headlamp if you have one, and you'll see the back wall of the cave light up with dozens of them. It's something most people never see.

The track gets slick after rain, so mind your footing if the weather's been wet—this isn't the walk to rush. The vibe is quiet and solemn in the best way; you're in rainforest, so there's a hush to it. Go early in the day to have the walk more to yourself, or later if you want to time the cave with dusk. Either way, wear shoes with decent grip, bring water, and give yourself the full two hours so you're not hurrying past the good bits.

If you're on the Gold Coast and you want to walk somewhere that feels genuinely separate from the rest of your trip, this is it. Four kilometres of rainforest, two falls you can get behind, and a cave full of small lights. Go.
